Peter,
my name is Bernd Boesemeyer, father of
Frank - whose fatal accident you reported under the heading
"PHOTO OF THE DAY".
My wife and I are disgusted about the way
you are reporting about our tragic loss and about the wrong information
you are giving your readers.
Obviously - you have no idea about
diabetes. Obviously you have no idea how parents feel and what
they go through, once their child is diagnosed with type 1 diabetes -
living with a walking time bomb which can explode at any given time.
We had to expect something like this - an insulin reaction (not a
withdrawal as you describe it) - and before you write such nonsense,
get some information in the future - the Internet is a good tool.. and
here you could get it: http://www.diabetes.ca/
Obviously - you have not been at the
scene. You write "...he lost control of his truck and left a
trail of wreckage as he collided with cars..." how many cars do
you call a "TRAIL OF WRECKAGE" - you should have waited and
read the article in the Herald, which is far more accurate in the
amount of damage.
Obviously - you take the first given
remark as a fact: "...The tragedy began earlier in the day when
the man telephoned his mother saying he was going into insulin
withdrawal while he was driving his truck..." It was not the
"man" who called his mother... it was his mother who phoned
him, realizing that he was getting close to an insulin reaction. She
reached him twice more on the mobile while trying to locate him -
driving across the city.
We are upset about your report - and we
are taking our limited steps to publish it:
Your copyright page was read very
carefully - and to be frank - I don't care if you want to enforce it.
It would just show the public in what disgusting way you are trying to
make a cheap buck.
Regards
Bernd Boesemeyer

PS
I am still in shock. My native tongue is
German - and if I was not able to get my point across with the right
words, in the right form and grammatically correct - I ask for you
understanding
