Dickson Dam (Glennifer Lake)

If you travel west of Innisfail to the town of Dickson don't forget to stop below the dam to do some fishing. Dickson Dam which flows into the Red Deer River has a variety of fish in it. The first time I went there to fish I was using frozen smelts. I threw my hook in the water and before I got a chance to start reeling the line in I had a 3 pound Pike on the end of my line.

The fish in this lake haven't developed to be anything monstrous, but because of the abundance of them it's a great place to take your family for a picnic and to do a little fishing from the shore. The lake also holds a good supply of Walleye, Rockies, and Brown Trout. If you go below the dam to the river and walk down the side of the river to it's first bend. The river becomes very calm and that's where you will see the Brown Trout popping the surface of the water as the feed on the local flies. Glennifer is also equipped with a boat launch but motors are allowed only in certain areas.
