Lac La Nonne is one of those
jewels located in close proximity to the city of Edmonton that produces incredible catches
of walleye. It receives moderate fishing pressure but the majority of anglers have trouble
catching walleye and elect to go after northern pike. Do not let stories from frustrated
anglers coming off the lake discourage you. This lake produces fish, and plenty of them.
They are just not as easy to locate as pike. As this
lake sees a fair bit of angling pressure, live bait rigs are one of the best
presentations. A recommended method is to start by using a three foot snell and a 1/4 inch,
clown L'il Corky for a float. Try both leeches and nightcrawlers. If the walleye are
grouped tightly on structure, a 1/8 ounce blue/glow jig and white Power Teaser tipped with
live bait is also deadly.
Most of the angling for walleye
takes place on the obvious structure like points and the gravel shoreline on the west side
of the lake. While these spots will produce, they are very heavily pressured. There is
some excellent mid-lake structure straight out from where the creek flows in on the west
side. A very sharp drop adjacent to the weeds produces later in the day, but early in the
morning, the fish tend to stay right up near the reeds.
