Swan Lake

Swan Lake is approx 84 km west of Innisfail on HWY 54, when you cross over Tay Bridge, travel another 3km and turn left on a logging road. Follow the signs and you will be rewarded with an excellent fishing lake. Swan Lake is full of lily pads growing a ring around the entire edge of the lake that provides excellent forage for the sunning Pike. The Pike in this lake grow to be around 15 pounds, but a 32 pounder was pulled out of here in 1990. If it's trout that your after this lake has both Lakers as well as Brown Trout that grow to a respectful weight as well. The Alberta record for Brown trout was caught here in 1991 weighing in at a bruising 17 pounds, however the average is around 6 - 10 pounds. The Lakers will grow to be 10 pounds but are fairly difficult to catch. In the spring time the best place to fish would be on the North side of the river where the spawning grounds are and as the summer moves on the South becomes more active as the fish move into the deeper parts of the water over by the beaver hut and the creek that dumps into the lake. Lures not to leave at home are: Large flat fish bright in color, assortment of flies also large in size. A Lenny Thompson 5 of diamonds also works good for the Lakers and Pike, and in the shallows where all the lily pads are fish a weedless jig or spoon and hold on as the Pike will surprise you with a quick ambush. This is also a camp ground area for the people looking to get away from the hustle and bustle of city life. There is a boat launch with docks to tie up your boats.
